Triaxial Test Setup

Clisp Studio csTriax comes with the easiest test creation and setup of any Geotechnical Triaxial software package available today. Choose the Total or Effective Stress test type you require, select the appropriate Standard and proceed through the steps of the wizard, initially setting up the specimen details and hardware relevant to your Test set up.

Triaxial Test Definition

Total & Effective Test Types

Clisp Studio only shows you what you need, Chosen BS1377-8 :1900? then we will only show you tests applicable to that standard. csTriax includes everything you need to create Single-Stage and Muli-Specimen Triaxial Tests including all the most common sub types (CU, CD, UU) and will perform these tests against British, American, French or Australian standards.

Wizard Driven Setup

A powerful and intuitive Test Wizard will guide you through the Setup, from the selection of the Hardware to be used and details of the Specimen, through to the data you require for the Saturation, Consolidation and Shear stages.

Personalised Hardware Setup

Because laboratories and research establishments often have numerous Testing Stations with many different Instruments, the Hardware setup screen has been designed with that in mind and will only show you the choices relevant to your selected Test Type and Installed Hardware, this enables the user to easily select the right Instrument required for Control or Transducer Input.

Specimen Details Setup

The Dimensions setup screen will automatically calculate and display the Specimen’s Area, Volume and Bulk Density from the data entered by the User. Similarly, the Moisture setup screen will automatically calculate and display the Specimen’s Moisture, Dry Density, Voids Ratio and Degree of Saturation from the entered data.

Configure

Triaxial Test Configuration

With Clisp Studio you have complete control of Triaxial testing for all stages. Stages can be configured to perform a standards based test or a custom test specific to your exact needs.

Consolidation Stage Setup

This Stage consists of one or more increments, each applying a defined initial Load. Data logging is initiated upon a specified Load or Displacement change, and the required data can be logged at a prescribed time interval, from a predefined table or on a specific Settlement change.

You can specify the Consolidation stage to be stopped when the Settlement changes by less than a specified amount within a selected time period and/or a specified maximum time is exceeded.

Consolidation Stage Setup

Our ‘Consolidation’ stage setup screens support either Isotropic or Anisotropic Consolidation, taking into account the information available from the Saturation stage. The screens presented are appropriate to the type of Consolidation to be carried out and all relevant data is logged at the prescribed time intervals with calculations carried out taking into account the drainage corrections selected.

Consolidation Stage Setup (cont.)

You can specify the Consolidation stage to be stopped when the Pore Water Pressure dissipation exceeds a specified percentage and/or the Volume changes by less than a specified amount within a selected time period and/or a specified maximum time is exceeded.

Shear Stage Setup

The ‘Shear’ Stage setup screens presented are dependent on the type of Consolidation carried out and take account of the membrane thickness and any side drains. The data logging rate is User specified and the wide range of data logged and calculated allows a number of different stopping criteria to be specified (e.g. Maximum Deviator Stress falling by a specified percentage, Maximum Stress Ratio falling by a specified percentage, calculated Stress Ratio falling by a specified number of times, Axial Strain extending beyond a specified percentage or a maximum time). However, some stopping conditions can be ignored to allow for real world laboratory conditions (e.g. initial strain peaks) to avoid premature Test termination due to initial erratic readings.

Execute

Triaxial Test Execution

You are able to monitor the status and condition of the Triaxial test as it proceeds. Live Views, Graphs and Tables show test progress while summary windows give Instrument, test and sample status at a glance.

Saturation and Consolidation

Live Test Views

For all three stages (Saturation, Consolidation and Shear) we offer predefined live data views to observe the most commonly measured variables and calculated data for the specimen being tested, whilst the Test Stage is running. This enables you to keep a close on eye on the measured parameters to check that everything is progressing well. Clisp Studio also enables you to customize the desired Live Data from the list of variables that are relevant to that particular stage.

Live Graphical and Table Views

For all three stages (Saturation, Consolidation and Shear) Clisp Studio enables you to monitor the Test progress both graphically and in the form of a table whilst the Test Stage is running. There are Predefined Graphs which plot using the usual axes and predefined Tables which display the most commonly measured parameters and expected results as the Test progresses, but you can also customize the desired Graphs and Tables from the list of variables that are relevant to that particular stage.

Report

Triaxial Test Results

As well as the completed Live Data View, Graph and Table, csTriax gives you additional Results tables as well as an extremely useful Summary Report and other more specific reports.

Saturation Results

Clisp Studio csTriax produces graphs and tables which provide you with all the required calculated data, results and associated values usually associated with the Saturation Stage of a Triaxial Test.

The Saturation raw data graphs show the raw data from any selectable Saturation schedule whilst the Saturation Results graphs display either Cell Pressure or Pore Pressure against the B-Value calculation).

Using csTriax you are able to display the data table containing the relevant measured and calculated values from the Saturation stage and the table data can be easily exported to MS Excel or copied and pasted to other packages. You can also customize your own desired Table from the list of variables that are relevant to the Saturation stage (see the customisation section).

Triaxial Reports and Results

Consolidation Results

Clisp Studio csTriax produces results views, graphs and tables which provide you with all the required calculated data, results and associated values usually associated with the Consolidation Stage of a Triaxial Test.

The Consolidation Results Views provide you with the calculated t90 value, the estimated strain to failure percentage, the Consolidation and Compressibility values and the corrected Dimensions of each individual specimen.

With csTriax you are able to display predefined Volume Change and PWP Dissipation Consolidation Results Graphs for individual specimens or all those tested. For Volume Change, on screen cursors enable you to calculate the t90 value and there are many features to manipulate both graphical displays to your display requirements. The results graphs can also easily be copied into commercial data manipulation and presentation packages. You may also customize your own graphs from the list of variables that are relevant to the Consolidation stage should there be a requirement (see the customisation section).

Using csTriax you are able to display the data table containing the relevant measured and calculated values from the Consolidation stage and the table data can be easily exported to MS Excel or copied and pasted to other packages. You can also customize your own desired Table from the list of variables that are relevant to the Consolidation stage (see the customisation section).

Reports

When you purchase Clisp Studio csTriax we provide a wide variety of Industry Standard reports (in the relevant language) for the different Triaxial Stages that would be of interest to a geotechnical engineer or end User. There is also an extremely useful summary report which summarizes the Test Type and Sample Details, the Initial Conditions, summaries of the Test Stages, descriptions of the Test, Client and Site and also signatory boxes for Quality Control purposes. All reports can be printed, saved as a PDF file or exported to Word or Excel. The industry standard reports available are:

·         Saturation: B vs. Cell Pressure

·         Saturation: B vs. Pore Pressure

·         Consolidation: Volume Change

·         Consolidation: Pore Pressure

·         Shear: Stress vs. Strain

·         Shear: Mohr Circles

·         Shear: Combined Path and Mohr Graph

·         Shear: Stress Path

Shear Results

Clisp Studio csTriax produces results views, graphs and tables which provide you with all the required calculated data, results and associated values usually associated with the Shear Stage of a Triaxial Test.

The Shear Results Maximum View gives you the calculated Stress, Strain and A Value results at shear failure for Maximum Deviator Stress, Maximum Stress Ratio and Shear Stress Level. The Shear Results Angles View provides you with cohesion and angle results for Effective Mohr Circles, Total Mohr Circles and Stress Path.

With csTriax you are able to display many different predefined graphs to show the calculated Cohesion Value and Friction Angle illustrate the shear results you are interested in. They are summarised as follows:

  • Stress - Strain : Axial Strain vs. Corrected Deviator Stress
  • Stress - Strain : Axial Strain vs. Pore Water Pressure Input
  • Stress - Strain : Axial Strain vs. Stress Ratio
  • Mohr Circle : Effective Stress vs. Shear Stress
  • Mohr Circle : Total Stress vs. Shear Stress
  • Stress Envelope : Stress Path s’ vs. Stress Path t’

and there are many features to manipulate the graphical displays to your display requirements. The results graphs can also easily be copied into commercial data manipulation and presentation packages. You may also customize your own graphs from the list of variables that are relevant to the Shear stage should there be a requirement (see the customisation section).

Using csTriax you are able to display the data table containing the relevant measured and calculated values from the Shear stage and the table data can be easily exported to MS Excel or copied and pasted to other packages. Clisp Studio also produces a table of Shear Results which provides details of all calculated values (Axial Strain Percentage, Stress Path Ratio, Stress Path s’ & t’ etc.). You can also customize your own desired Table from the list of variables that are relevant to the Shear stage (see the customisation section).

Data Export and Import

Clisp Studio has the ability to export the entire Test to MS Excel for further data manipulation. The Test can also be exported to a script file which can be imported when creating a new Test if desired. This enables Tests from the current or older versions of Clisp Studio to be cloned or even rerun if required. This facility is extremely useful for Test exchange between laboratories or investigation of an issue by VJ Tech.
